Jahvon Quinerly Leaves Future in Doubt with Instagram Story

Just when things couldn't get any worse for the Nova Nation, they did. Following the 78-75 loss to the Penn Quakers, freshman point guard Jahvon Quinerly made a controversial post on his Instagram story which seemed to say that he is not happy on the Wildcats. The story, which was deleted soon after it's posting, contained a plain black background with only the words reading, “Was my 2nd choice for a reason,” referring to his recruiting process.

Quinerly was a 5-star recruit from Hudson Catholic High School in New Jersey. In addition to his recruitment ranking, Quinerly was a big name recruit due to his fame as a member of the “Jelly Fam” basketball/social media collective. In August of last year, Quinerly announced his commitment to the University of Arizona. This commitment culminated a rigorous recruiting process in which Villanova was widely considered a close second choice.

However, his commitment to Arizona came under scrutiny following the FBI’s investigation into widespread college basketball corruption. In October of 2017, it was alleged that Quinerly accepted a $15,000 bribe from Arizona’s former assistant coach Emanuel Richardson in order to secure his commitment. As a result of this allegation, and the investigation of Richardson, he decommitted from Arizona and would announce his commitment to Villanova in February of 2018.

Quinerly’s dissatisfaction likely stems from the lack of playing time he has received. Entering the game against Penn Quinerly was averaging 9.9 minutes per game on the season in 7 games. In these 7 games, he averaged 2.7 points per game, 1.1 assists per game, 0.7 rebounds per game, and 1.6 turnovers per game. He is registering these stats on 26.7 FG% and 17.6 3P%. However, these statistics do not include the stat-less single minute he registered against Penn.

UPDATE: As of the morning of Dec. 12, Jahvon Quinerly's Instagram account has been deactivated.
