The decision to end "NovaFest" and replace it with an improved Campus Activities Team spring concert should be welcomed by all Villanova students. Though the term "NovaFest" is not officially used, what replaces it has several positive implications for Villanova's premeire spring event.
The decision to move the concert to a Friday evening will increase attendance because the concert will no longer be forced to compete with unsanctioned West Campus festivities occuring on Saturday afternoon. Students in recent years were forced to choose between attending the concert in the Pavilion or joining the rest of the Villanova student body on West Campus.
Another important decision made by CAT was to eliminate several of its events in order to dedicate more of its budget to this year's spring concert. Most of the events eliminated or consolidated were sparsely attended, and wisely allocating more funding toward the spring concert will help ensure that it lives up to what should be high expectations.
The cost of the tickets, $30, is not cheap, but tickets for The Fray normally sell for at least twice that price. More importantly, the attendance figures of each year are used to determine the budget allocated to the next year's concert. The more people who attend this year, the more funding CAT will receive from the University next year, and the bigger the act should be.
Villanova students should make every effort to attend the CAT spring concert on April 23, and CAT should be applauded for the changes it has made to its programming this semester.
